Boondock, ??: In a battle of the quarterbacks of the future, Bernard
Vickers and the Boondock Bandits outlasted Levon Davis and the Berlin
Bratwurst, 25-21. Vickers clearly had the better day passing, completing
19 out of 33 passes for 219 yards and one interception, compated to
Davis' 15 of 28 for 123 yards, 3 int's, and 1 fumble. The win gave
Boondock the NFC East championship, thanks to a loss by the Prowlers. These
two teams will face off once again in the first round of the playoffs.
Boondock came out slugging early, driving the ball deep after a Davis
interception, but had to settle for a field goal, one of 6 on the day
by Darius Sanders. On the next possession, Davis fumbled, and Boondock
recovered, scoring their only touchdown of the game to make it 10-0.
Boondock would add two more field goals before the Bratwurst were able
to put together a scoring drive. Boondock went int to halftime with a
commanding 19-7 lead.
The second half started much the same way with Boondock getting two
more Sanders' field goals to extend the lead to 25-7. Berlin finally got
a play from their defense, as Ben Leber returned an interception for a
touchdown. This was followed by a great Bratwurst Drive, fueled by a
deep pass from Davis to Dwayne Smith, and capped with a LaDanian
Tomlinson touchdown, that narrowed the gap to 25-21.
The Brats were able to hold the Bandits and force them to punt with
around 3 minutes to go, but Berlin was unable to put another drive
together, ending their winning streak at 2.
